Eskdale 2004 - Steve's Birthday Weekend

Steve turned 40 on May 14th this year. To celebrate, Hayley arranged a long weekend away in the Eskdale Green area of the Lake District.

The first evening was spent in our favourite local pub, The Bridge Inn in nearby Santon Bridge, where we enjoyed a celebratory meal. At the end of the meal a cake was produced for Steve to cut. (To Hayley's embarassment, her mention of Man United on the phone had resulted in a cake with the team emblem on it!) Afterwards we all retired to the campsite next door where some presents were opened and some 12 year old Macallan whisky was consumed.

The next day was spent playing cricket and football on the campsite before taking a trip on the Ravenglass Steam Railway.

The remaining 2 days of the long weekend were spent at a local guest house, The Ferns. From there we went cycling: exploring the local bridleways and enjoying the beautiful local scenery. It is a truly unspoiled and tranquil spot.

On Monday we reluctantly headed home at a leisurely pace, but not before taking a trip to the bike superstore Wheelbase and the fabulous Wilf's Cafe in Staveley.

There are some more pictures from the weekend here.
